REGGAE: Salvation for the Music Industry?
With relatively small capital investment, a little time, an industry relying heavily on social networks, and a willingness to proceed on informal contracts, you can create a network of up-and-coming artists that is impressive enough to attract the attention of headliners. Granted, it will take more for the few artists associated with the Marley's Tuff Gong label to shift their attention from their corporate support. That being said, Universal's choice to marginalize Reggae, refusing to include the genre in its list of music, is baffling. Reggae is a ready-made industry with fan numbers exceeding tens-of-millions. As of this writing, Bob Marley's Facebook fan page boasts 66,535,708 likes. It makes sense that corporate America would want to capitalize on the Marley name and its popularity. However, the vast majority of the Reggae industry functions outside of the Tuff Gong label, routinely booking international shows and festivals with attendance numbers in the the tens-of-thousands. Reggae is an industry ripe for the picking and, honestly, appears to be salvation for the struggling music business.

I was saddened to read that the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari's drums and other historic artifacts and instruments were destroyed in a fire last week. It was heartbreaking to hear from our friend Putus Roots about this loss.
In an effort to help we at Midnight Raver have launched the Rise Mystic Revelation fundraising campaign through CrowdRise with a meager goal of $1000. All donations may be made directly through the Rise Mystic Revelation CrowdRise page. Any donated funds will be held in an escrow account established through CrowdRise until an account is set up to receive donations for the restoration project (in the works now and should be online by the end of this week).
Please consider making a donation if you can. If not, anything you can do to help us get the word out would be so much appreciated.
Respect...
Mike
